About This Website

What are the main goals of the redesigned website for the Office of the Provost?

The main goals are celebrating UT Dallas’ wide range of academic achievements, providing information directly from Provost Inga Musselman, and making it easy for faculty, staff and students to find what they need. We hope we have accomplished our goals but readily accept suggestions at rick.vacek@utdallas.edu.

What sources were used to formulate the new look?

We gathered ideas from provost websites in the UT System and universities around the country, then looked to meld those features within UT Dallas’ web templates. Every step of the way, however, the focus was on telling the University’s unique story.

What should faculty know about the site’s resources?

The Policies & Tools page will be a frequent destination for the items they need. It’s designed to be a one-stop shop.

How does the site cater to new faculty members?

Not only can they consult the Faculty Onboarding page to see how to get here and what to do once they’re on campus; they also can learn about the importance of the Faculty Mentoring program and tap into teaching tools and other professional development ideas in Faculty Resources.

What’s the big deal about Faculty Mentoring?

It was restructured for the 2022-23 academic year and is poised to keep growing. Under the direction of Dr. Francesca Filbey, the program pairs experienced employees with newcomers for mentoring and features regular workshops for faculty members. The Faculty Mentoring pages provide the details.

Which page has the most information?

Probably Faculty Awards. It’s important that faculty members’ excellence is recognized at UT Dallas and beyond, and the page showcases who has won awards and how to apply for future honors. We wanted something that could provide a quick but helpful look at all those award applications and, to that end, created the Faculty Awards Search Tool, aka FAST.

What should staff know about the site’s resources?

The Policies & Tools page will be a frequent destination for the items they need.

What should students know about the site’s resources?

Whether they’re weighing their college choice or are well on their way toward graduation, they can find links to everything from the application process to honors programs.

What should the schools and Academic Affairs units know about the site’s resources?

They’re celebrated, too. The front page features their accomplishments and events, both in a daily news feed and in a custom calendar for this site. And they also have their own pages.

What is one last thing people should know about the new website?

It’s nimble. Like most UT Dallas sites, it is designed to highlight campus developments as well as provide the everyday basics that are essential to anyone who uses it. While it’s important not to look stale or predictable, it doesn’t matter how nice the site looks if you can’t find what you need. And, like the University, it will just keep growing and evolving.
