From Dr. Meghna Sabharwal, Associate Provost for Faculty Success | July 28, 2025
Starting a new academic year often brings excitement, curiosity and sometimes a bit of uncertainty — especially for new faculty members. That’s why the Faculty Success Program at The University of Texas at Dallas is introducing a series of new and refreshed initiatives designed not only to support research and professional growth but also to build genuine connections across campus.
One of the key additions to the 2025-26 schedule is a practical workshop titled “Setting up a Lab and Getting Your Research Started,” scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 6. Created with new faculty in mind, this session will walk participants through the practical aspects of launching a research lab, including how to navigate human subjects research, so they can start strong from day one.
To help faculty expand their scholarly horizons and form meaningful partnerships, the program is also introducing “Research Collaborations and Networking” on Friday, Oct. 24. This event invites faculty from all schools to come together, share ideas and discover collaboration opportunities. Whether you’re in your first semester or your 10th year, it’s a space to connect, dream big and build something new across departmental lines.
The monthly Faculty Coffee and Connections is evolving into a networking event — with plenty of coffee, tea and pastries to go around. But these aren’t just friendly get-togethers; they’re also moments for our office to check in with new faculty, offer support and make sure no one feels as if they’re navigating the first year alone.
Midway through the year, we will host a Mid-Year Social Networking Event — a casual, come-as-you-are gathering where faculty can relax, recharge and connect with colleagues in a more laid-back setting.
Mentorship continues to be a cornerstone of our community-building efforts. New Mentor Check-Ins, held each semester, will give mentors a chance to reflect, share what’s working in their mentoring relationships and exchange ideas with one another.
These efforts are about more than programming; they’re about people. Administrative Assistant II Vanessa Aguillon and I are working to build a faculty community where support, collaboration and inclusion aren’t just goals — they’re the everyday experience. These events will help faculty members feel more connected, more supported and more inspired in their work.
