Before you start the McDermott Scholars Program Application, please read these important notes about the application process:
- You need your UT Dallas NetID to start the McDermott Application.
- McDermott Applications and McDermott Recommendation Forms are the only things that are considered; no other information will be reviewed.
- McDermott Applications and McDermott Recommendation Forms will not be accepted after the deadline.
- Name your recommenders before submitting your McDermott Application.
Step 1
Submit your UT Dallas Application*:
- Submit your application to UT Dallas through Common App as soon as possible.
- Include supplemental materials like a résumé, optional essay, optional letters of recommendation, AP Scores, official college transcripts for dual credit courses, and/or SAT/ACT scores.
- Set up your UT Dallas NetID for step 2.

Step 2
Start your McDermott Application:
- Use your UT Dallas NetID to sign in to the McDermott Application.
- Save your McDermott Application with the blue “Save” button.
- Complete your McDermott Recommender Naming Form to choose your two recommenders.
Step 3
Complete and submit your McDermott Application materials:
- Submit your McDermott Application by Dec. 1, 2024, at 11:59:59 p.m. CST.
- Ensure your two recommenders complete their McDermott Recommendation Forms by Dec. 1, 2024, at 11:59:59 p.m. CST.
Frequently Asked Questions About the EMSP Application
When is my application to UT Dallas due?
You should submit your application to UT Dallas as soon as possible. It must be submitted before you can start your McDermott Application.
I submitted my UT Dallas application. How do I set up my NetID?
After applying to UT Dallas, you will receive an email with your NetID and instructions on setting up your account for the first time. The email is typically sent a few days after your application is submitted.
When is my McDermott Application due?
The McDermott Scholars Program Application and recommendations are due by December 1, 2024, at 11:59:59 p.m. CST.
Should I submit supplemental materials to UT Dallas even if the McDermott Program will not see or review them?
Yes! UT Dallas uses a holistic review process when admitting applicants and assessing them for the Academic Excellence Scholarship (AES) and you want your application to be as competitive as possible.
Can I use the recommendation letters submitted with my application to UT Dallas?
No, but you may use the same recommenders if you wish. The recommender must complete and submit our recommender form (they cannot upload or send a letter).
Can I have more than two recommendations?
No. The recommendation system will accept more than two (see next question), but only the first two submitted will be reviewed.
What if I need to replace a recommender?
If a recommender cannot fulfill their role, you may fill out the McDermott Recommender Naming Form again with the information for a new recommender. Be sure that the old recommender does not submit their McDermott Recommendation Form because only the first two recommendations submitted will be reviewed.
How do I check the status of my recommendation forms?
Use the “Check Recommender Status” button in Step 3 above. You will be able to see which of your recommenders have submitted their recommendation forms.
