The School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks a postdoctoral research fellow to aid in the development of novel methods to treat stroke and Parkinson’s disease by generating targeted plasticity in the motor system. The estimated start date would be August 1, 2010. The postdoctoral fellow will work in the Cortical Plasticity Laboratory of Dr. Michael Kilgard. The laboratory is dedicated to the development of novel treatments for human neurological disease. Our recent experiments indicate that precisely timed vagus nerve stimulation can be used to drive highly specific reorganization in the cerebral cortex. More importantly, this plasticity can be used to treat neurological disease.
We are seeking a highly motivated systems neuroscientist with a Ph.D. in motor system research. The ideal candidate would have a first author paper that used motor cortex microelectrode mapping techniques or involved animal models of stroke or Parkinson’s disease. Excellent communication skills are a must. Ideally the candidate should be a US citizen or permanent resident or have potential to independently secure permanent residence. The position is for one year with potential annual renewal contingent on a performance and US employment eligibility. Salary is commensurate with experience.
